A Godly Christian marriage is a union between two people who are followers of Christ, emphasizing the importance of honor, fidelity, unconditional love, and mutual respect.
It focuses on core Christian values that help foster a marriage grounded in trust and commitment.
At its core is God’s intention for husband and wife to serve each other in ways that not only bring them closer together but also draw them closer to Jesus Christ.
A true Christian marriage is a covenant based on promises and commitments made with our spouse and God to honor and protect the marriage.
The foundation of a strong Christian marriage includes forgiveness, understanding, patience, serving one another out of love, and respect for our spouse and God, which is essential for nurturing our relationship with God.
When you think of a Christian marriage, what comes to mind? If you’re like most people, you probably think of a relationship that is based on love, trust, and respect.
And while those are certainly important aspects of any healthy marriage, they are not the only things that Christians should strive for in their relationships.
Here are 10 things that every Christian marriage should include.
1. Love (Unconditional, Romance)
The Bible tells us that love is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13:4).
This means that in a Christian marriage, husband and wife should be committed to meeting each other’s needs and growing in their love for one another—even when it’s difficult.
It also means that there should be plenty of romance!
Husbands should make an effort to keep their wives swept off their feet, and wives should do the same for their husbands.
After all, romance is one of the things that helps keep the spark alive in any relationship!
Although this may not be easy to do all the time, it’s important to at least try to keep the marriage interesting and exciting but, above all, always express your love for each other.
We both know that there are no perfect marriages. I have never tried to be perfect in my marriage because it’s not possible, but it’s the fact that we try our best that’s important.
2. Trust
Trust is essential for any relationship to thrive.
In a Christian marriage, husband and wife need to be able to trust each other with their hearts, minds, and bodies.
They need to be able to confide in one another and know that their secrets will be safe. They also need to know that they can count on each other to be faithful, both emotionally and physically.
3. Respect
Respect is another key ingredient in any successful relationship.
In a Christian marriage, husband, and wife should always show each other respect—even when they don’t agree on something.
They should never belittle or demean each other, either in private or in public.
Instead, they should always seek to speak highly of one another and build each other up.
4. Understanding
There will be times in any marriage when husband and wife will disagree with each other or see things differently.
That’s why it’s so important for them to have an understanding of one another.
Even when they don’t see eye-to-eye on something, they should always try to see things from the other person’s perspective and show patience and grace towards one another.
5. Faith
Faith is an important part of any Christian marriage.
Husband and wife should share the same faith and values so that they can support and encourage each other in their walk with God.
They should also pray together regularly and attend church together as often as possible.
By doing these things, they will help strengthen their faith as well as their relationship with each other.
6. Forgiveness
No relationship is perfect—not even a Christian marriage!
There will be times when husband and wife make mistakes or hurt each other’s feelings unintentionally.
That’s why it’s so important for them to forgive each other quickly and move on from disagreements without holding grudges against one another.
By forgiving each other readily, they will help keep their relationship strong and healthy.
7. Patience
Patience is a virtue—and it’s one that every Christian husband and wife should strive for in their marriage!
There will be times when things get tough or stressful, but if they can learn to be patient with each other during those times, they will come out stronger on the other side.
They should also try to have patience when it comes to working through disagreements or differences of opinion so that they can resolve them peacefully without losing sight of what’s most important: their love for each other.
8. Sacrifice
In any relationship, there will be times when someone has to sacrifice something for the good of the relationship—and that includes sacrificing time, energy, resources, etc., if necessary.
A Christian marriage is no different!
Husband and wife should be willing to sacrifice for one another whenever it’s needed.
Whether it’s giving up a Saturday night out with friends so that your spouse can spend time with his or her family or skipping your weekly golf game so that you can stay home and help your wife with the kids, sacrifice is an important part of any healthy relationship.
9. Communication
It’s no secret that communication is key to any successful relationship—and that includes communication within a Christian marriage!
If husband and wife want their marriage to thrive, they need to learn how to communicate effectively with one another.
This means being open about their thoughts, feelings, wants, needs, etc., without fear of judgment or criticism.
It also means being able to listen attentively to what the other person is saying without interruption or distraction.
10. Prayer
Last but not least, prayer is an essential part of any Christian marriage.
Husbands and wives should pray together regularly, both individually and as a couple so that they can stay connected spiritually as well as emotionally.
By praying together,.they will not only deepen their faith but also strengthen their bond with one another.
What Does A Christian Marriage Look Like?
A Christian marriage is centered around the principles of unconditional love, forgiveness, and commitment.
This marriage is based upon the scripture from The Bible where a husband and wife should be under each other’s care and protecting one another, Ephesians 5:21-33.
This type of relationship dictates that husbands should serve their wives in the same way that Jesus served His people.
Wives are expected to respect their husbands and submit to them respectfully while honoring and loving them without condition.
Let me stop here to say that this verse is taken so out of context, and I often see men thinking that women are less than them.
But I just want to say to speak to the men here to say that when you marry a woman, both of you become one, Genesis 2:24.
To think your wife is any less than you is to think of yourself as a lesser being in the eyes of God as well.
When we get married, we are to love our partners with the same kind of selfless, unconditional love that God has for us.
God commands that we be patient, kind, and forgiving to one another. We should be willing to put the other person first and serve them with humility.
We should learn to communicate openly and respectfully, showing each other grace and mercy.
And lastly, couples should pray together regularly to stay connected spiritually as well as emotionally.
Christian Marriages Have God as The Driving Force
A successful Christian marriage is one that puts God first, strives for unconditional love, offers grace and mercy, and communicates openly with honesty, understanding, and patience – no matter what life throws at it.
Regardless of what is expected in your marriage, it is important to remember that a Christian marriage is not easy, and it takes hard work and dedication, but the rewards are worth the effort.
With a dedication to God and each other, couples can have a beautiful marriage filled with joy and blessings from our Lord.
