“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” – Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
If faith is such an important tool needed to please the Almighty God, then it is really worthwhile that we know and understand what this faith means.
In the opening verse of the same book of Hebrews 11, we see a breakdown of the meaning of faith as was revealed by the apostle Paul, who many believe is the writer of the book of Hebrews. It says:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1 NKJV
If we examine this verse carefully, we begin to grasp a greater understanding. Faith is something tangible. It is the state of realizing that something you once thought of as distance has become crystalized as a reality to you.
It is the full assurance of the things that you hoped for; those things that God spoke to you and now you believe. It is also the evidence of things not seen; the full persuasion that even what you have not yet seen is actually there already.
What is Faith
Faith is believing what you cannot see, with unflinching confidence. The book of Hebrews and chapter 11, is a compendium of the character of faith and examples of people who benefited because of their faith in God.
For it is only by faith that we can believe that there is a God who sits in the heavens, who made all things, who sent his only Son, Jesus, to come and die for the sins of mankind.
Not only do we need faith to accept the sacrifice of his dear Son and receive eternal life, but we also need faith to receive all other promises that God has made to us in the scriptures.
It is with faith that we please God; without faith, there is no hope that we can do the things that God would have us do which please him.
What is Faith in The Bible
This faith made Abraham and the fathers of faith be accepted by God; receiving the promise and the blessing. It says about Abraham:
“By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” – Hebrews 11:8 NKJV
This is the character of faith; that you forget every other thing and obey the voice of God without doubts or questions.
When we ask of God, we need faith to receive. Faith is the ingredient for receipt. Jesus said:
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” – Mark 11:24 NKJV
In our walk with God, we must continually build our faith to receive more and more of the things that he wants to give us. We know that the mind of God is to bless us and empower us with all that we need for life and for our godly exploits.
A Man Without Faith
The bible says that any man that lacks faith is a lost person, because though you read about all the promises of God, you will never be able to see them materialize in your life. This will make your walk with God unfruitful and frustrating.
Any man that lacks faith is lost:
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” – James 1:6 NKJV
Faith does not entertain doubts, it is bold and confident in its workings without regard to what is happening around at the moment.
The bible says:
“… the just shall live by faith.” – Romans 1:17 NKJV
The Faith That Moves Mountains
Now we know about faith, but how do we obtain such measures of faith that can even move mountains? The bible teaches a way to get that faith that we need in order to do exploits with God. It says:
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17 NKJV
It is by much hearing of the word of God and catching a revelation of the word that births faith in us. We cannot call “faith” any feeling that does not spring out of the knowledge of the word of God.
The word of God (everything that he has said) is the source of faith. When God speaks a thing and we hear and understand, and then respond in the light of the word received, then that is faith.
So, faith is a bye-product of the word of God which you have understood and are now acting upon.
For our walk with God, we need faith; for our healing we need faith; for our prosperity we need faith.
Everything we want to do with God must include faith, it is the ticket that validates our right to receive from him. So, pick up your bible and begin to study and digest the things that God has spoken and let your faith be built-up.
