How to Discern if You are Where God Wants You

by Sister McCook

Have you ever felt like you might not be where you are supposed to be in life?

Or maybe, you find yourself doubting that you are in the right place? We have all been there.

As Christians, we want to make sure we are in the right place, doing the right thing, and fulfilling God’s plan for our lives.

But how can we tell if we are where God wants us to be?

Let’s explore some practical steps in discerning God’s will and knowing if you are in the right place in your life’s journey.

Pray and Seek God’s Guidance

The first step in discerning God’s will is to pray and seek his guidance.

God has a unique calling for each of us, and we can only figure that out by spending time with Him.

Spend time in prayer and ask God to speak to your heart and guide you.

Read the Bible and meditate on God’s word to understand His principles and His plan for your life.

Examine Your Motivations

Sometimes, we might think we are where God wants us to be, but our motivations are not in line with His will.

Examine your heart and understand why you are doing what you are doing.

Are you doing it for your glory, or are you doing it for God’s glory?

Are you driven by ambition, or are you driven by love?

Listen to godly Counsel

Proverbs 11:14 says, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.”

Godly counsel is crucial in discerning God’s will. It’s essential to receive guidance from trusted Christian friends, family, or leaders.

They can offer valuable insights, perspective, and wisdom regarding your situation.

Wait Patiently

Gaining clarity on God’s will for your life is not always instantaneous.

It requires patience and persistence.

Sometimes, God might want to teach us a valuable lesson in the waiting season. In those times, it’s crucial to be still and wait on Him.

Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.”

Trust God’s Plan

The final step in discerning God’s will is to trust His plan for our lives.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Even when we don’t understand why things happen in our lives, we can trust that God has a plan and purpose for it all.

We can trust that God will never lead us astray and will always guide us to the right place.

Listen to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit often speaks to us in subtle ways.

He may prompt us to take a particular action, or He may bring a verse of scripture to mind.

If you are unsure if you are where God wants you, ask the Holy Spirit to give you clarity.

Sometimes, we may need to spend time in silence, listening for His still small voice.

Understanding God’s will is a journey of faith and obedience.

It requires us to be intentional in seeking God’s guidance and being open to trusting His plan.

As Christians, we can rest assured that God will never allow us to be somewhere He does not want us to be.

He will guide us every step of the way, and all we have to do is trust Him.

Let us continue to pray, examine our motivations, listen to godly counsel, wait patiently, and trust God’s plan as we navigate our life journey.
