How to Know that God Wants a Relationship with You

by Sister McCook

As Christians, we know that God wants us to have a relationship with Him.

But, sometimes it can be hard to discern if we are truly seeking God or just following the motions.

It’s important to remember that God is a personal God, and He desires a personal relationship with each one of us.

In this post, we’ll discuss some ways to know that God wants a relationship with you.

He Pursues You

God is always pursuing us, even when we don’t feel worthy or deserving of His love.

In John 3:16, it says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

God gave His Son for us, and that is the greatest act of pursuit we could ever imagine.

When we pray, read the Bible or worship, we are responding to the pursuit of God.

You Experience His Presence

When we seek God, we will find Him.

In Jeremiah 29:13, it says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Sometimes, we might feel like God isn’t present or listening to our prayers.

But, when we fully surrender ourselves to Him, we will experience His presence in a new way.

We might feel a sudden peace or comfort, or we might hear a still small voice nudging us in a certain direction.

These are all signs that God wants a relationship with us.

You Hear His Word

God speaks to us through His Word, and when we read the Bible, we grow closer to Him.

In Hebrews 4:12, it says, “For the word of God is alive and active.

Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

When we read the Bible, we are allowing God to speak to our hearts and reveal His truth to us.

The more we seek God through His Word, the deeper our relationship with Him becomes.

You Experience His Love

God’s love for us is unchanging, and it’s not based on our performance or merit.

In Romans 5:8, it says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

When we accept God’s love for us, we are able to love ourselves and others in a new way.

God’s love is what sustains us through the ups and downs of life, and it’s a constant reminder that He desires a relationship with us.

You Are Drawn to Him

Lastly, when God wants a relationship with us, we will feel a magnetic pull toward Him.

In John 6:44, it says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.”

When we feel a desire to seek God, to spend time with Him, or to know Him more, that is a sign that the Father is drawing us closer to Himself.

The more we respond to that draw, the deeper our relationship with God grows.

A Desire for Meaning

Do you feel a sense of dissatisfaction in your life and a longing for something more?

If so, it may be a sign that God is trying to draw you closer to Him.

We were created with a deep desire for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment.

But we can only find true fulfillment in a relationship with God.

Inner Spiritual Hunger

Are you spiritually hungry? Do you long for something that you cannot put into words? A thirst that seems unquenchable?

This is a common sign that God is calling you to develop a deeper relationship with Him.

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)

Increased Spiritual Awareness

Have you noticed an increase in spiritual awareness in your life?

Are you more drawn to reading the Bible, attending church, or praying?

This could be an indication that God is moving in your life and calling you to grow in your relationship with Him.

Consistent, Unrelenting Signs

Did you receive a message or give a testimony that involved a consistent message?

This is a strong sign that God is speaking to you and trying to get your attention.

Signs can appear in many forms: dreams, people, events, visions, and even unexpected personal callings.

If you experience a consistent, unrelenting sign, it might be time to take action.

God Reveals His Will to You

Prayer is our primary form of communication with God.

If you regularly ask God to reveal His will for your life and then get an answer seemingly out of nowhere, it’s unlikely that was a coincidence.

When God speaks to us in a significant way, we need to listen to what it is He’s telling us.

Developing a truly personal relationship with God is a journey that has many twists and turns.

There will be ups and downs, but if we persevere, we will come to know God in ways that will change our lives forever.

May we never forget our time with God, the innumerable blessings it has showered upon us, and the revelation of His heart towards us each and every day.

May we seek Him wholeheartedly and cling to the hope of the promises of eternal life, and the promise of a personal God who loves us beyond measure.
